Some Lesser Known Facts About Zane B. Stein

  • Zane B. Stein spent his childhood in Philadelphia, the United States of America.
  • As a teenager, he participated in numerous anti-Vietnam War protests and rallies in different parts of the US.
  • After completing his school studies, Zane Stein’s interest in astrology arose. His work in the field of astrology officially started in 1969.
  • In 1968, he attended Penn State University, where he enrolled to study Botany. However, he cancelled his admission in 1970 due to illness.
  • Due to the interdependence of the subjects of astrology and astronomy, he also developed a keen interest in space exploration. He also joined numerous Physics and Astrology Clubs, which offered activities related to astronomy.
  • His interest in astronomy further increased after the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) discovered a small celestial body named Chiron, located between Uranus and Saturn, in 1977.
  • To begin studying Chiron’s trajectory and other aspects, he penned a letter to Dr Brian Marsden at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, requesting him to provide astronomical equipment, also known as the astronomical ephemeris.
  • He then started working with Al H. Morrison, a renowned American astrologer, to begin working with plotting and tracking the trajectory of Chiron.
  • In September 1975, he enrolled in Temple University to study Horticulture; however, he dropped out of the college two years later due to familial issues.
  • In July 1978, Marsden joined Zane B. Stein in studying trajectories of Chiron and other celestial bodies surrounding it. Marsden also provided a trajectory chart of the celestial objects dating back to the 1960s to help Zane plot the direction in which the objects were heading.

  • Owing to his expertise on Chiron, he became the first astrologer to give a speech on it. He later published two books, which were widely quoted by astrologers around the world.
  • Later, he established the Association for Studying Chiron (ASC) under which he contacted astronomers and astrologers from different parts of the United States to gather information on Chiron.
  • In March 1979, the ASC published its first newsletter, The Key, which talked extensively about Chiron and other celestial bodies revolving around it. This newsletter played a vital role in conducting further research on the celestial body.
  • In January 1981, Dell Magazine approached him to publish an article on Chiron titled “Chiron: What Does It Mean To You?” which he had published through the ASC.
  • In August of the same year, Zane published an article titled Chiron Aspectarian, in which he talked about the impact of the celestial body on the sun and other planets in its orbit from 1901 to 2000. For this article, he took the assistance of Neil Michelsen, who worked with the Astro Computing Services.
  • In 1984, Dell once again published the article “Chiron: What Does It Mean To You?”
  • In the same year, he essayed another article titled Interpreting Chiron; he worked on the article along with Morrison. The article was about compiling all the information on Chiron, including how it relates to the different houses and signs in astrology. The article became one of the best-selling articles in just two years of publishing. He received a lot of money in royalties as many leading publications published it.
  • He and Morrison later published another book on the same topic. It became one of the most widely purchased and quoted books by astrologers.
  • He went through his first divorce in 1985. After the divorce, he filed a lawsuit in family court for custody of their daughters and was later granted custody.
  • ASC continued to function till 1986; however, after that, the organisation and the newsletter were discontinued.

After Morrison’s passing, he had decided to stop working on the book single-handedly; however, Stein’s girlfriend, Sandy, convinced him to continue working on the book to publish it. He talked about it in an interview and said,

In May 1995, dear Al passed away, and did not leave me with a stock of books to sell. In fact, I was at a loss as to how to handle requests for “Essence.” Then, my girlfriend Sandy suggested that I republish it myself. So, with the help of a friend with a scanner, I put my book on disk, made a few updates, and printed a limited edition, which quickly sold out.
