Gyan mudra is said to be the superior of all hand mudras. The meaning of the Sanskrit word ‘Gyan‘ is ‘Supreme Knowledge‘, which means that the practice of Gyan Mudra gives the highest knowledge. It has been done by many Yogis for meditation purposes.
Gyan mudra is best to provide tranquillity, peaceful and spiritual development to all. It enables us to distinguish between right and wrong, thereby showing all the light of truth, which is Gyan.
Step 1: Sit down in a meditative posture.
Step 2: You can sit in different asanas such as the Sukha Asana (Easy Pose), Vajra Asana (Diamond Pose), Padma Asana (Lotus Pose) or sit comfortably on a chair.
Step 3: Make sure that your back is held straight.
Step 4: Rest your hands on your knees with your palms facing upwards.
Step 5: Touch the tip of the thumb to the tip of the index finger, with the other three fingers stretched out.
Step 6: This Mudra is performed with both hands.
Step 7: Close your eyes and concentrate on your breath peacefully.
To further enhance the efficiency of the Gyan Mudra, you can chant the word ‘Om’ in conjunction with every exhale.
Daily 30 minutes practice of this mudra will give you best results. You can do it anytime in a peaceful environment. It is recommended that early morning meditation gives quick results.
